Job Description:
We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Cost Accountant to join our team in the Aerospace and Defense sector. The ideal candidate will play a crucial role in providing accurate financial analysis and reporting aimed at enhancing our operational efficiency and profitability. This position requires strong analytical skills, a deep understanding of cost management principles, and the ability to work collaboratively across various departments.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Cost Analysis and Reporting:
- Prepare, analyze, and report on cost data to support strategic decision-making.
- Develop and maintain cost accounting systems and processes to ensure accurate tracking of costs related to projects and operations.
2. Budgeting and Forecasting:
- Assist in the preparation of budgets and forecasts, providing insights based on historical data and projected trends.
- Monitor and report on budget variances, collaborating with departmental managers to explain discrepancies and recommend corrective actions.
3. Inventory Management:
- Oversee inventory valuation and ensure compliance with accounting standards and policies.
- Conduct regular inventory audits and reconcile discrepancies to maintain accurate inventory records.
4. Project Costing:
- Collaborate with project managers to establish and monitor project budgets, ensuring all costs are captured and reported accurately.
- Analyze project profitability and provide insights for continuous improvement.
5. Compliance and Internal Controls:
- Ensure compliance with financial regulations and internal controls related to cost accounting.
- Participate in internal audits and assist in implementing the necessary changes based on audit findings.
6. Reporting and Documentation:
- Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual cost reports for management review.
- Document cost accounting procedures and update them as necessary to maintain accuracy and efficiency.
7. Collaboration and Communication:
- Work closely with cross-functional teams, including finance, procurement, and operations, to facilitate accurate financial reporting and cost management.
- Provide training and support to team members on cost accounting practices and systems.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- A minimum of 3 to 5 years of relevant experience in cost accounting, preferably in the Aerospace and Defense industry.
- Strong knowledge of cost accounting principles, practices, and methodologies.
- Proficiency in accounting software and Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel.
- Excellent analytical skills with a keen attention to detail.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively in a team environment.
- Knowledge of ERP systems is a plus.
