We have a fantastic opportunity for a Business Data Analyst to join our Group Data and AI Office (GDAIO) Team at Royal London. This role is suited to candidates who have practical experience working with data, requirements and business stakeholders, and who are looking to develop their career within a supportive data change environment. You will bring strong analytical thinking, curiosity, attention to detail and a collaborative approach to helping teams understand and use data effectively.

The Business Data Analyst will support the delivery of high-quality analysis across data change initiatives. You will help collect, map, analyse and document information and requirements, working with source system SMEs, business teams and data colleagues to understand data structures, data dictionaries and source-to-target mappings. The role will involve supporting value-chain mapping of data, interpreting relevant performance and financial information, and helping create reusable documentation artefacts that support delivery by engineering and project teams.

Working closely with Data Engineering teams, Business SMEs and project colleagues, the Business Data Analyst will analyse data systems, translate findings into clear requirements and support project teams through discovery, impact assessment, data sourcing, migration and delivery activity. This is a hands-on analysis role where you will be encouraged to build your knowledge of Royal London’s data landscape, contribute to good analytical practice and develop confidence in working across both business and technical teams.

About the role:

Provide analysis on a range of data and business change topics, helping teams make well-evidenced decisions
Support source-to-target data mapping, data optimisation, sequencing and phasing of data sourcing to the Enterprise Data Model
Work with business and technical colleagues to understand data structures, data dictionaries, requirements and mappings
Evaluate business processes and help identify opportunities for improvement using data and insight
Document requirements, source-to-target mappings, business data dictionaries and technical data dictionaries to support delivery teams
Communicate analysis findings clearly to project teams, business SMEs and management, adapting your approach for technical and non-technical audiences
Support data quality assessments, impact assessments, migrations and improvement initiatives, helping teams understand data impacts, risks and dependencies
Perform user acceptance testing and support the monitoring of deliverables to help ensure timely completion of project activity
Contribute to a culture of accountability, continuous improvement and effective governance across analysis activities
Reflect Royal London values through positive behaviours, collaboration and taking ownership of your own development

About you:

Experience as a Business Data Analyst, Data Analyst or similar role, ideally within financial services, a regulated environment or a complex organisation
Practical understanding of what it means to be data-driven in decision making, with the ability to interrogate data and make pragmatic recommendations
Experience working with stakeholders to gather, analyse and document requirements, data mappings or business process information
Awareness of Agile ways of working and the software development lifecycle
Understanding of data lifecycle management, data governance and the importance of data quality, accuracy and traceability
Competence in at least two relevant tools or techniques, such as Microsoft Excel, SQL, Power BI, Tableau, Azure Synapse or Databricks
Strong numerical, analytical reasoning and problem-solving skills, with good attention to detail
Good written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain analysis clearly to both technical and non-technical colleagues
Good organisational skills, including the ability to manage your own workload, focus on priorities and support delivery to agreed dates
Collaborative stakeholder skills, with the ability to listen effectively, ask constructive questions and build positive working relationships across teams

We are particularly interested in hearing from analytical, curious and collaborative data professionals who want to develop their career in a business data analysis role. If you have experience working with data, requirements and stakeholders, and are excited by the opportunity to support meaningful data change at Royal London, we’d love to hear from you. Financial services, migration or platform experience would be helpful, but is not essential.
